Where do we begin? Know who you are!

First of all..marketing begins with U! You have to know who you are, where you are going and what you want! Now this can be a task in itself, but we are going to take it one step at a time.

Know who you are! What type of person are you? Do you like to talk to people? Are you shy and but sure how to start conversation with strangers? Do you get nervous and avoid these types of converstions all together? Are you a self-starter? Organized? Creative? Do you know your strengths and weaknesses?

  • These questions are a good start to knowing yourself. In order to be effective in marketing, you have to know what your good and not so good traits are and how to fine tune them for your specific task. Find what you are really good at and find ways to use those traits to compensate for traits that might be lacking. Remember, no one is perfect...but we don't want people to see the imperfections.

  • If you are shy or get nervous talking to people, whomever you are "pitching" yourself to is going to sense the insecurity and they will not have confidence in you and what you are trying to market. Build confidence BEFORE stepping into the streets to sell your product..especially if that product/service is you!

  • Are you a self-motivator or do you need someone to prod you along? Find the things that help you start and more importantly FINISH! Another essential quality! What good is it to put all your effort into selling a product or service and then you don't deliver?

  • Are you creative? Creativity is must when it comes to setting yourself apart from the other billions of people out there offering the same thing you are! This is a good time to BE DIFFERENT, but still be professional. Find what makes you unique and run with it. Everyone has at least a tee-tiny bit of creativity in them but may not know how to show it. This is a good time to find a marketing buddy..brainstorm and bouce ideas off each other with out being threatened that they will steal your ideas!

This is a good start to getting to know yourself! You are one step closer to finding the marketing genius inside you!
